A Tribute To Sri Ganesan
“Life and death are one thread, the same line viewed from different sides.”
In the heart of Kuala Lumpur, on the 8th of July 2023, at the prestigious Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre, a captivating dance performance took place that left everyone in awe. It was a night of enchantment, a night that paid homage to the legendary “Natya Thilakam” Guru Dr. Sri Ganesan Ji, brought to life by Guru Sushmita Banerjee and her talented students. The event was graced by the presence of the esteemed High Commissioner of India to Malaysia.
An Evening of Cultural Reverie
Guru Sushmita Banerjee, a name synonymous with grace and mastery, led her students on a journey through the intricate and expressive world of this classical dance form.
A Tribute to the Maestro
The performance was not merely a dance recital; it was a tribute to the life and work of the renowned Bharatnatyam maestro, Sri Ganesan. Malaysia-based exponent of Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance, Sri Ganesan, died in June after collapsing at an event in the eastern Indian state of Odisha.
Guru Sushmita Banerjee and her students beautifully wove together their artistry to celebrate the legacy of this great master. Every move, every expression, was a testament to their dedication to preserving and perpetuating the rich tapestry of Indian culture.
Gratitude to the High Commission of India
None of this would have been possible without the support of the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur. Their commitment to promoting Indian art and culture is commendable, and we extend our sincerest gratitude for providing this incredible opportunity to showcase the beauty of Kathak. As we reflect on this extraordinary evening, the quote, “Life and death are one thread, the same line viewed from different sides,” takes on new meaning. The program ended with Guru Sushmita Banerjee’s signature choreographic work, “Ganga Avataran” as a reminder of the continuity of life through the immortal Ganga. Through the mesmerizing performance by Guru Sushmita Banerjee and her students, we witnessed the thread of life and art intertwine, creating a tapestry that connects us all.
